Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he was left infuriated by the club’s failure to hold on to the second spot in the 2015-16 Premier League campaign.
For much of the season, Tottenham were involved in a title race along with Leicester. However, they could not hold on to the momentum in the final weeks of the season. After having just conceded defeat in the title race to Leicester, Tottenham’s form collapsed in the last few games and were surprisingly beaten 5-1 by relegated Newcastle United in the final day of the season.
This result proved catastrophic as Arsenal overtook Spurs into the second spot. It meant that Tottenham now have to live with the record of not having finished ahead of Arsenal in almost 20 years.Pochettino says that the collapse by the team in the final few games of the season was totally not acceptable. He also claimed that his summer holiday was completely ruined by this aspect.Pochettino does not seem to be pleased with the fact that the club achieved Champions League qualification. Instead, the ignominious record of being the second best team in North London seems to be indigestible for the South American.
Tottenham have been preparing extremely hard in pre-season and have already racked up the most number of miles than any other Premier League outfit.“The feeling after Newcastle was horrible. It wasn’t good.It is true after a couple of months you move on, but that defeat put me in a bad mood for the whole of the summer. It killed my holidays. Seriously.I went to Barcelona and the Bahamas with my family, but all the time I was in a bad mood. And if that was not bad enough, in seven days in the Bahamas we had storms for six of them!” said Pochettino.
