Tottenham Hotspur are currently sitting at the 14thin the English Premier League table and with that all the goodwill Mauricio Pochettino had acquired for the past three years have now dropped to an all-time low it may even be harder than Spurs’ table position.
Spurs have been struggling all season long. They have failed to win any Premier League match since September and with Leicester and Chelsea putting in heavy performances weekly, even the allure of the Champions League qualification is slipping more away from the grasp of Pochettino and his crew.
For years, as United and Arsenal wandered, Tottenham Hotspur were able to make the 3rd position their birthright. It ensured they qualified for the Champions League every season and that was what actually kept Pochettino employed.
He has not won any trophy at Spurs nor does he look like anytime soon but the stabilityhe ensured he gave Spurs made his job safe.
They are not the only team in North London finding life difficult this season. Unai Emery after auditioning for the Arsenal job thanks to stints at Sevilla and Paris Saint Germain, the Spaniard has connived to make the fans angry at every week for the past few months.
If the top four had been occupied by the usual suspects, Pochettino’s job might not be under much of a scrutiny. It will just mean he has to get his lads up and going enough to clinch the Europa League spot.
With Leicester City however sitting second with almost half of the season gone, it shows that any coach that can get enough cooperation from his squad can go as far as challenging Liverpool for the Premier League crown this season.
Tottenham drew at home to Sheffield United on Saturday and should the results continue like this, they won’t hesitate to fire Pochettino
