Tottenham’s inconsistent form continued after they lost 2-1 to Leicester City at home in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

After reaching the League Cup semifinals of the weeks back, Tottenham would have been looking to achieve a similar run in the FA Cup as well. Mauricio Pochettino has spoken about the importance of winning titles in order to bring the squad together for future successes.

This loss certainly does not read well in the hopes of the club doing well in the League Cup semi-final against Sheffield United on Wednesday despite having a lead on aggregate.

Pochettino witnessed his team crumble in the last 10 minutes of the match, but he refused to blame complacency. Continue Reading

American goalkeeper Brad Friedel has come out in support of Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, who saw his team suffer a third league defeat in the last five matches. Pochettino came as the replacement for Tim Sherwood in the summer too much expectation. After all, he had done exceedingly well in his previous job as the manager at Southampton. He managed to get the club close to a top six place despite being on a fairly limited budget. Pochettino has not spent a lot of money at Tottenham, as he has primarily concentrated on trimming down the squad.

After the numerous purchases last summer, Tottenham have a severely bloated squad. Even though results at the start of the season were extremely good, they have turned sour of late. This is returning to put Pochettino’s position at the club in peril.

Chairman Daniel Levy has previously shown that he will not think about sacking of manager if results are poor continuously. Tottenham’s latest defeat came in the hands of Stoke in front of their home supporters at White Hart Lane. In fact, their form at home has been very poor this campaign with four out of the five defeats coming here.

Friedel, though, has backed Pochettino to turn round the situation and start delivering results in the coming weeks.“It’s very much early days. The new manager has come in and he’s going to have his own style of play.

I don’t think it’s a secret what his style actually is if you’ve watched his previous teams Espanyol and Southampton. It’s very physical and very much in the face of other teams. He wants to play with high energy and to press high. It’s like when most managers go into a new club, they need a bit of time to get their players playing the way that they want,” said Friedel.

The start of the season for Tottenham Hotspurs has been a difficult one as the squad of Mauricio Pochettino has had to face off against some of the top clubs in the Premier League during the initial 3 months of the season.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Southampton, Manchester City are some of the top clubs that Tottenham Hotspurs has had to face so far in this season with a number of draws and defeats having been experienced along the way.

Tottenham Hotspur is currently located in the mid-section of the English standings and despite not being in the top spots of the Premier League, Mauricio Pochettino is optimistic about the future of his squad as he stated that his players are performing better as each match passes on.

“I have enjoyed my four months at Tottenham. We knew when we signed for Tottenham that we expected a tough period. We are in a very tough period in the club, but when you arrive to a club with big potential like Tottenham, a big club, and have the possibility to build something important, this is a very good challenge for us’’ Pochettino told the media.

Mauricio Pochettino signed a 5 year long deal with Tottenham Hotspur as he made his way from an outstanding time in charge of Southampton which attracted the attention of Tottenham and they were willing to sign him on such a long period of time but despite having signed for the upcoming 5 years, if Pochettino is not able to finish the current season in a top position in the Premier League then his managerial position at White Hart Lane could be in risk.

Tottenham suffered yet another thrashing at the hands of Liverpool at White Hart Lane after a 3-0 defeat during the weekend. Last season, Brendan Rodgers’ team ran out 5-0 winners in a performance that was inspired by Luis Suarez. A lot of changes to the teams have taken place since then with Tottenham bringing in former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino to take the team back to the Champions League. Liverpool, meanwhile, lost their star asset in the former Suarez to Barcelona over the summer. Despite this, Tottenham looked far away from Liverpool throughout the 90 minutes.

After the match, Pochettino gave his damning verdict that Tottenham have to improve a lot in order to compete for a top four place. The North London team came into the encounter after having won the opening two matches, but this defeat is a major setback especially given that it occurs just before the international break. Most of the Tottenham players, who will not be involved in internationals over the next fortnight, will be reflecting on this defeat for a long period. Pochettino spoke about the importance of recovering from this defeat as soon as possible.

Tottenham have a tough round of fixtures coming up with matches in the Europa League followed by opponents like Arsenal and Manchester City in the league.

“Today was a very tough day for us. I think the key to our defeat was the start of the second half when there was a soft penalty. We played OK but were unlucky in the key moments. It was a very soft penalty but we need to improve. We need to build our confidence and build our future. We have a lot of games ahead. Sometimes you improve from your victories but you need to improve too from your defeats,” said Pochettino.
